Title: Peppery Scrambled Eggs
Length: 446
Rating: Teen
Poetic form: Kyrielle
Notes: Retirement. Feels.
Summary: Watson is frustrated by life's changes.
Author's Note: for the monthly prompt: change & my Yahtzee prompt: peppery.

Breakfasting with the one I love,
upon four prongs, a question begs
it’s a mystery, the why of
very peppery scrambled eggs.

Gave an aged tongue quite the shove.
Drained a chipped mug to drops and dregs
pondering the how, whence thereof
very peppery scrambled eggs.

Title: The Christmas Train
Rating: Teen
Length: 405
Notes: Song parody. Alt First Meeting. Holmes/Watson. POV Holmes.
Summary: Holmes meets a handsome stranger on the Christmas train.
Notes: Not a Christmas carol but it is a song. The Kiss in the Railway Train, a music hall song from 1864. The girl meets a man in a train and he kisses her in a tunnel and his moustache comes off on her face and he turns out to be a pickpocket and he steals her money and the police catch him. Also, for the picture prompt fun photo from yesterday which is beautiful (give it a look) of the Durango & Silverton train in winter (Colorado).

Title: Red As Blood
Form/Word Count: 100
Characters/Pairing: Dr Watson
Rating: PG
Warning/Content: A ruby which deserves the description
Also written for DW's Drabble Soup prompt 'Red As Blood'

Watson held the jewel in his hand.  It shone red as blood, which Watson felt was only appropriate, considering how much blood had been shed in the retrieval.  Three men dead, including one brave constable who had gone to Holmes’ rescue.  Holmes himself was wounded, but would soon recover.  And all for a jewel its owner described as priceless.  Indeed, how to put a price on a man’s life.  Holmes would receive a reward for the ruby’s recovery, but Watson knew it would be put in trust for the constable’s widow and orphaned children.  Holmes didn’t care for blood money.

Title: The Message Home
Form/Word Count: The letter 136 - total length 327
Characters/Pairing: Dr Watson, Sherlock Holmes
Rating: PG
Warning/Content: Watson is at the Somme, writing to Holmes

Early July 1916

My Dear Holmes,

Just a few words in response to your latest letter, which has finally caught up with me.

It is July once more, and I have been thinking of the days when we woke to the dawn chorus, heard birdsong all day long, and at night there was the sound of the owl and the nightingale.

And today I remembered that strange case involving Mr Grant Munro, which led me to recall how well received your Bohemian role had been.  And how we had discussed the case over the breakfast marmalade – do you remember Mrs Hudson commenting on how many orange pips there had been, when she made it?

By the way, I am still of the same opinion I expressed shortly before we met Miss Cushing.

Yours

J H Watson

Title: Charades

Author's Note: This is the final chapter of my ACD Christmas ficlet collection for this year:  The Longest Night & Other Yuletide Stories. Two of the other ficlets I have posted here, but the other one I didn't (because it was too long) is called The Longest Night and it is set during the Hiatus of Holmes watching the premiere of The Nutcracker in St. Petersburg and pining for Watson.
