Sherlock’s lips twisted wryly as he barely refrained from smiling. He stepped away as the General blustered while the Inspectors placed him in handcuffs. “This -- This is outrageous!”

“Now, my dear General, your belief that you would get away with so many murders is what is outrageous. Did you really believe we would never catch you?”

The General glared at him, his face turning first red and then purple from outrage. His mustache trembled and jerked so that it looked like it was about to leap off of his furious, bloated face. “WHO ARE YOU?!” he demanded.

“Have you not yet guessed?” the detective asked. He smiled. “Of course you have not.” The General uttered such rage that his words were completely indecipherable even to the world’s most skilled detective as Sherlock removed his mask. The inspectors had to struggle, but they finally pulled him away.

Watson stared at Holmes in disbelief. “My God, Holmes! I understand the need to catch the blighter, but did you really have to dress up like a woman in so many skirts and petticoats?!”

“Men will boast to women they wish to court about their successes more than they will any other person,” Sherlock said with a wave of his fan. Realizing what he was doing, he harrumphed, snapped the fan quickly shut, and slid it into his purse. He realized, with a small smile, that Watson’s mustache was now slightly trembling.

“Do you not look so bothered, Watson. It was only a ruse to catch the General up.”

“I know. But -- But -- “

“Besides,” Holmes smiled earnestly, “I quite enjoyed it.” Laughing, he turned and walked away. Watson shook his head, knowing when he was beaten and there was absolutely no sense in trying to change Sherlock’s mind, and eventually followed, his head tucked.

Clever of Holmes. I like the idea of him waving his fan to illustrate a point.

I too like the bit with the fan - Holmes suddenly catching himself and quickly putting it away ^__^

I also really like the line: His mustache trembled and jerked so that it looked like it was about to leap off of his furious, bloated face. It's such a great bit of description.
