This activity is a slight reworking of this idea on DeviantArt:




First write a double drabble (200 words).

Then rewrite that double drabble as a drabble (100 words).

Then rewrite the drabble either as a 55 word story or as a 60 word story.

Then rewrite the 55 word story (or 60 word story) as a 6 word story.


This is an exercise in form and looking at exactly what is necessary to tell a story. But don’t feel that you simply have to edit the number of words down for each new story—maybe try changing the POV, changing the rating, writing a sequel or a prequel. Whatever you like!

I would suggest putting the four fics together in one post, using in the subject line: Fic, Poem or Fic/Poem as applicable, “Half-Life Activity” in lieu of the four titles, and then all relevant ratings separated by commas.

It is up to you whether you put all the information for the fics into one header or into separate headers, but I would suggest putting the fics under individual cuts.



As always, AUs, crossovers and fusions are all permitted, as long as the characters remain essentially recognisable as the original ACD versions.

And you needn’t take part in the activity, if you don’t wish to. Once you’re a member, you can post what and when you want—as long as you keep to the 500 or under wordcount and the ACD Holmes ‘verse.

It's something I've wanted to have a go at for quite some time. I hope it appeals to other people too though.
