Welcome to the December activity post!

This month, the activity is Christmas crackers, and here’s how it’s going to work:

In your comment, state the two people pulling the cracker.

Tell us who wins.

And then tell us what was in the cracker.

For example:

Holmes and Mrs. Hudson are pulling the cracker.

Mrs. Hudson wins!

Inside the cracker is a miniature eviction notice, a paper crown decorated with the words 'I Rule', and the motto/joke reads: "What did the landlady say when starting to tidy bottles in a cupboard: Let's be gin."
[Joke supplied by my esteemed co-mod. Not all puns are my fault.]

If you need any inspiration to get the imagination going, here’s an article on the Victoria and Albert Museum website which shows a few typical Victorian cracker contents, and here’s an article from Victoriana Magazine, which goes into quite some detail about Victorian crackers.

As always, you needn’t take part in this activity if you don’t wish to. Once you’re a member, you can post what and when you want—as long as you keep to the 500 words or less wordcount and the ACD Holmes ‘verse. AUs, crossovers and fusions are all permitted, as long as the characters remain essentially recognisable as the original ACD versions.

Please see the profile for the full posting guidelines!

Holmes and Watson are pulling the cracker.

Holmes wins!

The paper hat flies out and lands in the gravy jug. The joke says "A large hole appears near a major bank. The consulting detective is looking into it." And Mrs Hudson confiscates the miniature box of matches before Holmes can grab them.

Nice. Nobody wanted that hat anyway.

One might almost think the hat ended up in the gravy on purpose.

Christmas crackers - where the bad jokes are regularly re-used.

Jimmy (professor) Moriarty and Jimmy (colonel) Moriarty are pulling the cracker.

There's a pair of dueling pistols, a hat that says 'Mummy loves me best' and in place of a riddle or motto, a coupon for 'Steal One [Priceless Piece of Artwork] Get One Free' at the British Museum.

The pistols are used to see who wins.
