“…it was very nice of the King to invite us to his nuptials,” said Watson. “Especially given how the case ended. Of course, we could have sent our apologies, after all, it is a long journey, but I think this jaunt through Bohemia will do us a world of good.”

“Perhaps,” said Holmes noncommittally. He sipped his tea while observing his companion’s attack on breakfast.

“We’ve only been traveling for a day or two, but I can already feel my humour returning.”

“Oh, dear.”

“But I shan’t make a joke about German sausages,” said Watson, chewing thoughtfully. “They’re the wurst."

“Now, Holmes, you must admit that was a beautiful wedding.”

Holmes made a noise which imitated he ‘must’ do nothing of the sort.

“The flowers, the dress, oh, the veil.” Watson sighed. “And the festivities afterwards. The food, dear me, the food. I shan’t eat for a week.”

“Really?”

“No, of course, not. But everything was so beautiful. It was all so beautiful even the cake was in tiers.”

Holmes groaned. “You are sleeping alone tonight, Watson.”

“Because of a pun?”

“No, because that slice of cake is going to attract mice!”

“I’ll dream of my true love!”

Holmes harrumphed.

“The Black Forest,” said Watson with awe. “You and I are hiking through the stuff of fairy tales, my dear man. Perhaps we will find something Grimm.”

“Watson! If you do not cease and desist with what passes for sallies of amusement in your pawky mind, I shall—!”

“There’s no need to be rude, Holmes. I was going to tell you the joke about the giant. But I shan’t. Mainly because it’s above your head.”

“ARGH! I shall break your neck!”

“Why don’t we break the fourth wall instead and wish our dear friend MANY RETURNS OF THE DAY!”
