Mrs Hudson was not having a good morning.  She had twice been interrupted while making her bread by someone knocking at the front door.  The first had been Mr Holmes trying out a new disguise.  She had seen through it and closed the door again before he had had time to speak to her.  The second had been a door-to-door salesman, whose reception had been even shorter and frostier.

Now she was back with her bread dough and just had to score it before putting it in the oven.  She picked up her knife and plunged it into the dough.  Four rapid knife thrusts and it was done.  They were a bit deep, but the bread would survive.  It wouldn’t be as good as sometimes, but she doubted Mr Holmes would dare to complain.
