"Every instinct tells me that Sanders was lying and yet I can’t see how I’m going to prove it,” Holmes said.

“Oh, he was lying all right,” I agreed.  “Wherever else he may have been he wasn’t at the rugby game.”

“But you agreed with him how good it was, and you didn’t query the score.”

“No, he quoted the score correctly, which he could have read in a newspaper.  But when he mentioned that excellent second try, which it was, he said it was scored by Gareth Williams.  I watched Geraint Williams score.  The newspaper didn’t say which Williams.”
