After we had sat at the small railway station for over ten minutes, I began to make suggestions as to why we were being delayed.  It wasn’t like in some of the more major stations, where one sometimes had to await the arrival of a connecting train before one could depart, for this was a local station with only an up line and a down line.  My first suggestion was that the lord of the manor had announced his intention of travelling by train and we were therefore waiting for him.  I had another couple of ideas, but finally settled on one of Holmes’ adversaries having stolen the station master’s flags to delay our departure because the train could not be waved off.  At that point Holmes had suggested I return to my novel.

Finally, we began to move, and Holmes leant out of the window and called out, “What was the delay?  Was it anything serious?"

"Oh, no, sir," the station master replied.  “Just a cow on the line.  We had to get Bert to come and move her, she wasn’t too keen to go.”

Holmes withdrew his head and said to me.  “That’s one you didn’t think of.”

Holmes' mind is more sensible and well-arranged, but I think it must be more fun to live inside Watson's mind ^____^

Good thing they weren't taking a train through Kansas or Nebraska - a passing buffalo herd could hold up a train for a couple of days.
