Warning/Content: Holmes intends to foil Mrs Hudson's spring cleaning
Mrs Hudson had made known her intention to begin spring cleaning that day. I had therefore determined to spend the day at my club once I had completed my visits to my patients. Meanwhile, over breakfast, Holmes had stated his intention to foil Mrs Hudson’s plans, by sitting in his armchair and refusing to move.
It was just after half past eleven when I returned to Baker Street, having completed my round. I intended to leave my medical bag in my room and also make sure no further messages had come in for me, Mrs Hudson having assured me this would not cause a problem.
I had made it up the first flight of stairs when I was met by a giggling Bessie. “Oh, Dr Watson,” she said, “you had best go and rescue Mr Holmes.”
Accordingly, I made my way to our rooms. On entering, I saw Holmes’ armchair had been covered with a dust sheet. On slightly closer inspection, I realised the chair had a very strange outline. I walked over and removed the dust sheet. Holmes was still sitting in the chair.
“And just how long have you been like that?” I enquired. “No don’t explain. You have made your point, now come along, there’s a good chap, and join me at my club for some roast beef.”
