“There it goes again,” Mrs Hudson exclaimed.

Dr Watson, who had gone down to ask if he could possibly have some tea and toast, having been called out on to a patient very early that morning, said, “What does?”

“Holmes!”

“That’s Holmes the spider,” Dolly explained.

“So called because it appears at unexpected moments in places where I don’t want it,” Mrs Hudson added.

“Can I help?” Watson asked.

“Yes, if you can be ready to shut the window as soon as I shout ‘Now!’”

Dolly passed the brush and dustpan to Mrs Hudson and held the coal scuttle in readiness.

Mrs Hudson quickly swept the spider into the dustpan and tipped it into the coal scuttle.  Dolly rushed across to the open window and emptied the spider out.

“Now!” Mrs Hudson yelled.

Watson shut the window.

“And hopefully Holmes has gone for good.  If only all problems with that name were as easy to deal with,” Mrs Hudson said.
