Warning/Content: There are noises coming from the broom cupboard
Mrs Hudson glared at the door of her broom cupboard, walked a few steps, and opened the kitchen door. But instead of going in, she paused and listened again. She was right, there were noises coming from inside her broom cupboard.
“Hmm,” she thought, “it’s too noisy for a mouse, it must be a rat. A giant rat. Possibly even the Giant Rat of Sumatra.” However, unlike the world, Mrs Hudson was prepared to deal with the rodent. “What I need is a rat trap.”
She retreated to her kitchen and had a brief conference with Annie. When they came out, there were still noises coming from the broom cupboard. Mrs Hudson nodded to Annie, who crept across the landing with a kitchen chair. She placed the chair beside the broom cupboard door and quietly climbed onto it. Mrs Hudson then silently passed a rug over to her.
They waited until the cupboard door opened. Mrs Hudson held up her hand and Annie watched until the landlady lowered her hand, when Annie dropped the rug.
There were exclamations and the creature tried to escape, but somehow fell over in the process. Instantly, Mrs Hudson and Annie were there and tied the creature inside the rug.
“Look, there are four feet. I told you it was a Giant Rat,” Mrs Hudson beamed.
