Title: Doomed Voyages

Warning/Content: Watson, aided by Lestrade, lists a number of Holmes' voyages which haven't gone smoothly.

 

Holmes looked slightly put out at my comment.  “You surely cannot believe that every vessel I board is doomed in some way,” he said.

“Well,” I replied, with a quick glance at Lestrade sitting opposite me, “on our return from Paris, on the boat crossing the Channel you uncovered those smugglers, who didn’t appreciate your foiling their plans.”

“And,” Lestrade joined in, “when we took the ferry to the Isle of Wight, the first mate tried to throw you overboard.”

“Not to mention the man who took great exception to you on the boat from Torquay to Brixham.”

“He was a jewel thief.”

“And very handy with his fists.”

“It was as well you could box too.  As it was, we were forced to return by train, since the boat’s owner refused to let you back on again.”

Lestrade laughed.  “Then there was the young lady who hit you while you were rowing her on the boating lake.”

“I hadn’t heard about that,” I said.

“She misunderstood my proposition,” Holmes replied.

“Just don’t take a boat in your bath,” I slurred.

Lestrade and I both laughed uproariously.

Holmes snorted and said, “It is said empty vessels make the most noise.  I am removing this from the pair of you.”

He reached across the table and picked up the three-quarters empty bottle.

And very clever of you to extend ACD's traditional doomed voyages to poor Holmes ^^" I was particularly taken with Lestrade laughed. “Then there was the young lady who hit you while you were rowing her on the boating lake.” “I hadn’t heard about that,” I said. “She misunderstood my proposition,” Holmes replied. ^____^

That came to me shortly after you suggested the prompt! And then I just needed to work out how to use it.

It seemed only fair!

I, too, was taken with this litany of bad sea voyages for Holmes himself. And I like the adage of empty vessels, too.

It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that no voyage undertaken by an ACD character, will end happily.

I had been tempted to give the words to Mrs Hudson, but on this occasion left them with Holmes.

One thing for sure: Holmes wasn’t bored during those voyages. Watson’s final comment put an image into my mind of Holmes playing with toy boats while taking a bath XD

Holmes certainly didn't have time to get bored! An image Holmes would rather you didn't have!
