“Well?” Mrs Hudson asked, as Edith came back into the kitchen.

“He’s still there, but he seems to be making preparations to go out,” Edith, the maid, replied.

Mrs Hudson looked around her.  “We’re all ready as soon as he does,” she said.

They heard Holmes’ footsteps going down the stairs.  As soon as the front door slammed shut, Ethel ran across the landing and watched to make sure he hadn’t changed his mind and decided to return.

Then the two of them grabbed all the cleaning tools and headed up to 221B.  It was time for the pre-Christmas clean.
