Inspector Lestrade sat down on the bench next to Inspector Hopkins. Hopkins continued to read his newspaper as though nothing had happened.
“Could you spare a little time from your newspaper to help us find Meredith?” Lestrade asked quietly. “We’ve scoured the station forecourt but there’s been no sign of him.”
“That’s because he’s not arrived yet,” Hopkins replied, equally quietly. “He’s arriving on the eleven o’clock train from Swansea.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“I overheard two of his men discussing the arrangements.”
“We’ve been on the lookout all morning and haven’t heard anything.”
“They were speaking Welsh.”

Date: 2019-02-10 05:54 pm (UTC)That's very neatly done. Shows it's always worthwhile to have more than one language ^__^ (I wonder what language Lestrade's family originally spoke...) But more than that, kudos to Hopkins for being aware that people aren't always just going to be conveniently speaking English for Scotland Yard inspectors ^__^
