“Holmes,” Watson began, “your face seems a little darker in colour than usual.  Are you planning on going out in disguise?”

“Bother,” said Holmes, “I’d better go and wash.”

“A disguise from this morning then,” Watson deduced.

“A trial run only.”

“Was it successful?”

“Not really, no.”

“What did you go as?”

“I thought I’d try the ghost costume out on Mrs Hudson.”

Watson looked rather puzzled.  “But ghosts are usually white.”

“Hmph!”

“What happened?”

“Mrs Hudson took one look at me and threw the remnants from our breakfast teapot over my head.”

“And totally ruined your costume.” 

Holmes snorted.
