This month’s activity is called:
A Stitch in Time Saves NineWe are asking you to come up with ideas for actual stitched items that were of great assistance later on.
Some examples:
The local laundry is somewhat surprised to see that Mr. Holmes has started sewing pockets into his underwear. But there is method in his madness. Watson has been using his lockpicks to retrieve his chequebook and after one too many disastrous losses at the races Holmes takes it upon himself to hide the chequebook in one of these secret pockets—this being a 'set of drawers' that Watson is
not going to be able to pick.
Mrs. Hudson has never regretted looping together her own rope ladder. But after using it for three rapid escapes from a first floor window and two from a second, she decides it would best if she and the servants slept on the ground floor. So she gifts the ladder to Dr. Watson. And
only to Dr. Watson.
A Swiss holiday, May 1891. Holmes may be fatalistic but Watson damn well isn't. He may not have Holmes' ability to guess the likely course of the future but to cover all possibilities he stitches a self-releasing parachute into Holmes' walking jacket, and stitches a label into his shirt stating that:
If the wearer should wander he is to be returned to: Dr. J. H. Watson, Kensington, London, England. Thank you so much.As always, you needn’t take part in this activity if you don’t wish to. Once you’re a member, you can post what and when you want—as long as you keep to the 500 words or less wordcount and the ACD Holmes ‘verse. AUs, crossovers and fusions are all permitted, as long as the characters remain essentially recognisable as the original ACD versions.
