“Holmes,” I said, watching him peering closely at an article in the newspaper, “I do wish you’d wear your glasses. You may not like admitting to needing them when you are elsewhere, but I am fully aware the effect of the years is having on you.”
“I would,” Holmes replied grumpily, “but another effect of the years is that I cannot remember where I left them.”
I sighed and took my own reading glasses off, preparatory to helping him find his. As I opened my case to put them away, I saw another pair inside, showing unforgettable signs of misuse.
