Fic: Vampire Bat
Title: Vampire Bat
Form/Word Count: 309
Characters/Pairing: Mr Holmes, Dr Watson, The Ferret, The Ocelot, The Sloth, Mouselet, Aemelia Vole
Rating: G
Warning/Content: And featuring the Ferret's latest waistcoat (Burgundy waistcoat)
“How did you get on?” the Ocelot asked when Holmes and Watson returned to 221B.
“It was very successful,” Holmes replied. “Thanks to the distraction I was able to search through Greer’s desk and find the relevant paper.”
“Won’t he suspect you?”
“It’s possible, but unless he looks for it immediately he won’t know it was me. And since he came by it dishonestly he can scarcely cause much trouble.”
“I imagine he’ll be too busy recording his encounter with the vampire to look for the paper for a while,” Watson added.
“How did it go?” the Sloth asked.
“I was magnificent,” the Ferret said, poking his head out of the doctor’s pocket.
“Greer was most impressed to see a vampire bat hanging from the rafter,” Watson said. “And Aemelia, I should tell you he was particularly taken with the waistcoat.”
The Ferret clambered out of the pocket and took a bow, showing off the deep burgundy waistcoat.
“He looked at the ‘bat’ from all angles, which gave Holmes plenty of opportunity to search his desk. Of course, it wasn’t long before the inevitable happened.”
“He fell off,” Mouselet said.
“And thanks to the extra tucks in my cape I floated gracefully down,” the Ferret said.
“That’s not an adjective I’ve heard used to describe you before,” the Sloth said.
“I think it’s more that the cape, when spread out, slowed his descent, so he only landed with a slight thud,” Watson said. “I hastily collected him in my bag, before Greer got too close and discovered his vampire bat had a long tail.”
“And we left shortly afterwards,” Holmes said. “Greer was so enthralled he barely noticed our departure.”
“I believe in my next stage role I shall take the part of Dracula,” the Ferret said. “I shall call it A Bite at Night is Certainly A Fright.”
