"I am ready," the Ferret declared, his cloak swirling round his legs.
He then picked himself up, having tripped over the swirling cloak.
"For what?" Mouselet asked. She and Aemelia Vole were sharing a piece of cheese left from lunch. To be precise, Sherlock Holmes had been demonstrating the probably route taken by the gang after robbing the bank, using sticks of celery as roads, and the piece of cheese as the vehicle they had used. Inspector Lestrade had disputed part of the route and in the process of relaying the celery roads, the cheese vehicle had rolled off the table. The sound of footsteps had heralded the arrival of Mrs Hudson and the two men had hastily replaced the rather battered celery, and the cheese had temporarily been forgotten, until Mouselet, not believing in waste, had retrieved it.
"For my birthday ode!"
Poley, sunning herself on the windowsill said encouragingly, "Let's hear it then!"
"To the person whose gifts
Don't cause any rifts
And whose abilities
Don't provoke hostilities
Without further ado
We say 'Happy Birthday to you'"
"Hmm," Poley said, trying hard to be positive, "It rhymes!"
"I like the last two lines the best," Aemelia added.
"Thank you." The Ferret looked smug until he worked out what they said.
Mouselet wrinkled her nose. "Not one of your best!"
