Summary: Some things are catching.
My eyes fluttered open at the sounds of arrival; then mingled surprise and horror in the other room.
“Holmes! Are you still in the bath?”
“Yes, Watson,” I replied, adding, “for my sins.”
“Clark Russell is splayed out on the rug, spine broken, jacket disarrayed, covered in kippers and, oh, I can bear to look at it, spilled milk! Who could have done it?! You’re a detective! Detect the culprit!”
“Bricks and clay, my dear man, but may I suggest a Jezebel.”
“No doubt, a shameless animal has been afoot. And you, doing nothing to prevent this hideous crime.”
I rose up from the bath and dried myself quickly, the better to attend to my irate companion, his damaged book, and Mrs. Hudson’s newly-acquired cat, named for that most famous of Phoenician princesses, who had a penchant for making much of our breakfast things when they weren’t cleared away promptly.

“…but, Holmes, I didn’t think you knew who the murderer was.”
“Of course, I did. And I told you so.”
“I asked you directly and you said it was a mystery.”
“No, I said it was a Mr. E. All the clues pointed to Mister Edgerton.”
“Puns are contagious.”
“Apparently.”
