Fic: What Remains - PG, gen
Title: What Remains
Form/Word Count: 100
Characters/Pairing: Stanley Hopkins, Sherlock Holmes
Rating: PG(ish?)
Warning/Content: Warning for mention of character death. Stanley Hopkins, formerly of the Yard, carries out a last request.
"Bury it," the note had read, "but not, under any circumstance, with me."
Sighing, I looked it over again. Emerald of such clarity, I could die a rich man. Most would call me foolish for carrying out this last favour, digging a furrow for a tiepin's grave.
Only a fool would keep it, in such a world. A gem's nothing more than promise of bloodshed, learned that well enough over my years. Besides, I'd wish no better for myself than how it went for him, or for the doctor before: to pass quietly, then disappear, like green stone under moss.
