Fic: The Seven Meals of a Consulting Detective: G
Title: The Seven Meals of a Consulting Detective
Form/Wordcount: 419
Characters/Pairings: Mrs Hudson, Mr Sherlock Holmes, Dr John Watson
Rating: G
Warnings/Content: Mrs Hudson has a list of meals
This is based on the seven daily meals of a hobbit (yes, I do have the t-shirt)
The following note can be found pinned inside one of Mrs Hudson’s kitchen cupboards. It is there in case she is missing at the relevant moment.
First Breakfast:
Mr Holmes may require a pot of tea and possibly a slice of toast if he has been working through the night. When delivering such, try not to wake Dr Watson, he deserves his sleep.
Second Breakfast:
Dr Watson always enjoys a good cooked breakfast. Mr Holmes may or may not partake, but must always be given the option. It may be thought a waste of food, but he has paid for it. And most things can successfully be reheated, several times if necessary.
Elevenses:
If Inspector Lestrade calls at the appropriate time, he is very partial to a cup of coffee and a suitable cake or biscuit. He will always say thank you and occasionally provides a gift of a bottle of gin as a token of his gratitude. This is for my use only; chocolates may be shared.
Luncheon:
If the doctor has not gone to his club, luncheon should be served at 1 o’clock. Check with Mr Holmes if he wants any. If the reply is “mrghh, mrghh”, then reheated breakfast will be sufficient for him.
Afternoon Tea:
Inspector Hopkins, a frequent afternoon caller, is fond of a cup of tea and a piece of cake. He is always grateful. On a hot summer’s day he will also partake of homemade lemonade. If Mr Holmes is in his active case-solving mood do not use the best china.
Dinner:
Mr Holmes and Dr Watson frequently go out for dinner. However, it is important to check. It is important to check again half an hour before serving, since Mr Holmes is quite capable of changing his mind and go sweeping out of the house just as you carry up the dinner tray. It is not acceptable to throw the contents at his head, however tempting that may be.
Supper:
A cold collation may be called for any time from one hour after dinner to almost midnight. It is best to ensure there is always some bread, cheese and cooked meats available. Given suitable warning more can be provided, but if the gentlemen return accompanied by others just at the point you are going to bed, they will have what they are given and be grateful. If the supper is merely for Mr Holmes when he has forgotten to eat all day, reheated breakfast is perfectly acceptable; he will not notice.

Mrs Hudson sees no point in wasting good food, when it may come back uneaten again.

Particularly taken with 'dinner' (It is not acceptable to throw the contents at his head, however tempting that may be). And of course: ...occasionally provides a gift of a bottle of gin as a token of his gratitude. This is for my use only; chocolates may be shared. ^_____^

I'm glad you've picked those two examples - I did enjoy writing them ;)

And a true testament to Mrs Hudson, her landladyship:-)

If only one of her tenants appreciated her as much as you do :)
