“The Ferret’s in love again,” Mouselet told Dr Watson.
“Who is the poor unfortunate who is currently suffering his amorous attentions?” the doctor asked.
“It’s a young weasel,” Aemelia replied.
“He took her for a moonlit walk last night,” Mouselet added.
“But it was thick cloud,” Dr Watson objected.
“And a new moon,” Aemelia agreed.
At that moment the door opened, and Inspectors Lestrade and Hopkins entered with Holmes. Both small rodents sighed and instantly turned their attention elsewhere.
Watson wasn’t upset. They might laugh good-naturedly at the Ferret, but their own hearts were engaged as much as his was.

The Ferret is just being himself - he throws himself into whatever he's doing, sometimes literally, and most would call it foolhardy ;)
