Fic: Tea Cosy: G

Title: Tea Cosy
Form/Word Count: 221B
Characters/Pairing:  Mrs Hudson, Mrs Turner
Rating: G
Warning/Content: Mrs Hudson has her knitting needles out

“That’s a strange pattern you’re knitting into that tea cosy, Mrs Hudson,” Mrs Turner said to her friend.

They were having their weekly knit and natter afternoon, which this week, as happened quite often, they were holding in Mrs Turner’s cosy sitting room, since 221 Baker Street was, once again, suffering from an unpleasant smell of the ‘that object better have left the building by the time I return’ variety.

“Well, you know how those Frenchies used to include the names of the aristocrats, who were getting their heads chopped off, into their knitting, that’s what I’m doing.”

“But surely you don’t have that many names to include?”

“No.  I’m just knitting Mr Sherlock Holmes several times.   It’s really rather satisfying.”

“Do you think he’ll notice?”

“Very unlikely.  He may be incredibly clever at spotting things when he’s investigating something but put it under his nose and he won’t see it at all.  Dr Watson may see it, but as his name isn’t on there he won’t be bothered.”

“It’s not exactly a very pretty colour is it?  Say what you like, but I prefer a pretty tea cosy, I think it brightens up the tea tray.”

“I quite agree, but I wanted something which would disguise where it was singed and stained, which is why I went for mottled brown.”

Holmes might consider it a tribute! Lovely idea and neat 'b' to end on!

A wise woman, Mrs. Hudson.

Of course Watson, being far better-read than Holmes when it comes to fiction, will recognise what she's doing but won't. say. a. word.
