“With Watson out of the way,” Holmes said, “I thought we might have the freedom to indulge in a few days’ holiday ourselves.”

“That would be lovely,” Hopkins replied.  “Where do you suggest we go?”

“Since Watson is visiting an old friend in Broadstairs, Brighton seems like the ideal destination.  Can you pack a bag and meet me at Victoria Station in order to catch the 2 o’clock train?”

“Of course.  What about a hotel?”

“I know the perfect hotel.  I’ll send them a telegram.”

Hopkins smiled.  “It will be marvellous to be away from everyone for a few days.”
