Fic: The Contents of Watson's Pocket

Title: The Contents of Watson's Pocket
Form/Word Count: 221B
Characters/Pairing: Dr Watson, Ferret
Rating: G
Warning/Content: Watson's coat pocket has unexpected contents

When we returned to 221B I put my hand into my pocket, intending to retrieve the coins I had dropped in there as we were leaving, meaning to buy a newspaper while we were out.  I had not done so, matters having grown much more complicated than Holmes had originally anticipated, and I therefore planned to give the coins to Bessie and ask her to pop out for one.

I couldn’t instantly find them, so I pushed my fingers deeper into the pocket lining, to see if they had become trapped.  Of course, it was possible that they had been taken by a pickpocket, there were plenty about, but I thought this unlikely.  And then I found something sticky, and removed my hand, to discover my fingers were covered in toffee.

At that point I was able to perform some Holmesian deductions, namely there was toffee in my pocket because the Ferret had travelled in it that morning and therefore the coins which I was searching for were in my other coat pocket.  I found them and went downstairs to ask Bessie to buy me a newspaper.

I returned to our rooms to find the Ferret singing a very toffee muffled version of ‘You’ve got to pick a pocket or two’, his latest production being a compilation of Charles Dickens’ books.
