Characters/Pairing: Sherlock Holmes, Mrs Hudson
Rating: G
Warning/Content: Mrs Hudson spots something in Dr Watson's armchair which brings back bad memories.
“What is that?” Mrs Hudson spoke in a tone which promised dire consequences should the answer not be satisfactory. She was pointing at an article which was in Dr Watson’s armchair.
Holmes glanced up and said, “It’s a trombone case.”
“And does it contain a trombone?”
“I believe that would be the expected contents.”
“Mr Holmes…”
At that moment Holmes registered the seriousness of the landlady’s tone. “Don’t worry, Mrs Hudson. It belongs to Inspector Bradstreet. He will be back shortly to reclaim it. The police band have a concert in the park this afternoon and he wanted to make a couple of enquiries in the neighbourhood, so I said he could leave it here while he did so.”
“And Dr Watson?”
“Is out and will not be back before Bradstreet has returned.”
Mrs Hudson breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank goodness for that. For one awful moment…”
“Mrs Hudson, this is one occasion when you and I are of like mind.”
The event both were remembering is here: The Case of the Missing French Horn
