Fic: De Vermiste Dame | The Missing Lady: G
Title: De Vermiste Dame | The Missing Lady
Form/Wordcount: 55 (both original and translation are 55 words long)
Characters/Pairings: Sherlock Holmes
Rating: G
Warnings/Content: N/A
Author’s Notes: "And the ring?" I asked, glancing at a remarkable brilliant which sparkled upon his finger. "It was from the reigning family of Holland, though the matter in which I served them was of such delicacy that I cannot confide it even to you, who have been good enough to chronicle one or two of my little problems." [IDEN]
Een belangrijk familielid wordt vermist. (Nederlands is niet mijn moedertaal...) My first attempt at a fic in Dutch. Written for the November 2018 Prompt: Family.
Wilhelmina haastte zich de kamer in.
“Mama! Meneer Holmes is aangekomen! Ik heb hem gezien!”
Haar moeder glimlachte. “Blijf maar rustig, lieverd. Herinner dat je nu koningin bent.”
Sherlock Holmes werd binnengelaten, en hij boog voor het kleine meisje.
“Majesteit,” zei hij. “Ik beloof dat ik uw pop Mevrouw Spring in 't Veld zal vinden.”
* * *
An important family member has gone missing. (Dutch is not my mother tongue…)
Wilhelmina rushed into the room.
“Mama! Mr. Holmes has arrived! I’ve seen him!”
Her mother smiled. “Just stay calm, dearest. Remember that you are queen now.”
Sherlock Holmes was shown in, and he bowed to the little girl.
“Your Majesty,” he said. “I promise that I will find your doll Mrs. Spring in ‘t Veld.”
A/N: Wilhelmina became Queen of the Netherlands in 1890, at the age of 10. And ‘Spring in ‘t Veld’ is a real Dutch surname.

Thanks so much ^___^
ETA: Just after typing that I saw a mistake in the fic I needed to correct ^^"

It took me so long just to write those 55 words ^__^ (And as I say to Small Hobbit above, I just noticed a mistake I'd made in the grammar ^^") But I need to get into the habit of actively writing Dutch and this seemed a good place to start ^^

And the story itself is so cute. I can’t imagine being crowned queen at 10. Wow.

I gather Wilhelmina didn't actually take up her duties until she was 18 - her mother served as regent until then - but, yes, it's difficult to imagine being a child in that situation. She seems to have been someone who could stick up for herself though ^_^
