We’re well into summer now, so the prompt for this month is:

Dog Days

You could write about a hot summer’s day. Write about a dog from canon, or write about an original dog character. There’s Holmes' infamous left canine, and Sirius the Dog Star. Perhaps a character is being dog in the manger, or is being dogged by bad luck. Maybe you should let sleeping dogs lie, because you can't teach an old dog new tricks...

As always, you needn’t use the prompt if you don’t wish to. Once you’re a member, you can post what and when you want—as long as you keep to the 500 words or less wordcount and the ACD Holmes ‘verse. AUs, crossovers and fusions are all permitted, as long as the characters remain essentially recognisable as the original ACD versions.

Please see the profile for the full posting guidelines!

Title: Yo soy un hombre sincero
Rating: G
Notes: magic mirror AU
Summary: 1895. Doctor John Watson looks in a mirror. José Martí, poet & ‘apostle of Cuban independence,’ looks back.

Author’s Note: for the June prompt: travel & for the GYWO May Mirror, Mirror Challenge (one person looks in a mirror; a different person looks back) my prompt was ‘Havana, Cuba.’ The verse are from José Martí’s Versos Sencillos, which was the last of his poetry to be published before his death in battle in May 1895. Anachronistically (i.e., the song wouldn’t be written for fifty more years), Watson is humming Guantanamera, which is based on pieces of Martí’s verse. Translation at the end.

Inspired by my co-mod’s recent trip to York, the prompt for this month is:

Travel

So it could be a story set somewhere other than London—or post-retirement, somewhere other than Sussex. It could be set in Britain, or further afield. It could be a story about the journey itself, maybe set on a train or a ship. Or simply a story involving one of Holmes and Watson’s famous walks together. Or a story about Mrs. Hudson taking a well-earned break at the seaside!

Author's Note: On fffc there is a challenge of 31 one-word prompts to write 31 one-sentences stories for. We're only supposed to post there when we've done a whole table, but as I'm having a bit of a rotten day, I thought I'd share the first six (with a different flower mentioned in each). The fffc prompt is in bold. Each sentence stands alone.

The prompt for this month is:

Flowers

These could be the new spring flowers in a garden or a park. Flowers at a wedding—or at a funeral. There’s the language of flowers too, of course. Pressed flowers, or the Victorian enthusiasm for botany. Or it could be a gaggle of gals called Violet!
